The E-rate program provides discounts on certain services and products that are essential for classrooms
and libraries to receive important 21st century technologies services and products in voice, video, and
data communications. Nearly every elementary and secondary school, including many private schools and religious
schools, is eligible to receive discounts through E-rate. The amount of the discount (ranging from 20% to 90%
of the annual costs) depends on the level of poverty and location of the school or library receiving service,
meaning the most economically disadvantaged schools receive the most help.
